The Bochlwyd Horseshoe is one of the most spectacular scrambles in Snowdonia taking on Tryfan, Bristly Ridge and Y Gribin Ridge making for one spectacular day of scrambling with loads of time on rock. This is a must for any adventurous hill-walker.

Our Bochlwyd Horseshoe guided scramble is ideal for the mountain walker looking for a day out that offers a little more adventure and loads of scrambling. Over the day you will take on the iconic North Ridge of Tryfan where you will be guided up narrow gullies, airy ridges and rocky pinnacles before taking in the views on the impressive summit of Tryfan (918m). After a short break, we will then descend the south ridge before tackling Bristly Ridge to the summits of Glyder Fach (994) and then down Y Gribin Ridge. This is truly one of the best scrambles in Ogwen and a must for any experienced hillwalker.

Ability Level

This guided scramble is perfect for anybody with some grade 1 scrambling experience and an adventurous spirit. The route is exposed but the scrambling is no more difficult than Crib Goch, Striding Edge or Sharp Edge but it's a long day out so a good level of fitness will make the day much more enjoyable. 
This course is also ideal for anybody who has attended our Introduction to Scrambling.

The Bochlwyd Horseshoe is a big day of scrambling equal in size to Crib Goch or Striding Edge. A good level of fitness is required so you can move in the mountains for around 8 hours. The pace will be controlled by your leaders so you can relax and enjoy the day. 

The route is grade 1 but Bristly Ridge is more exposed and more challenging than Tryfan or Sharp Edge. You will need to be happy on steep exposed scrambles or have completed our Scrambling Introduction. We ask that only those with plenty of grade 1 experience attend this event. 

We meet our clients in Ogwen Valley at a pre arranged meeting point. Full details are sent our when you book your place including a Google dropin and WSW.

Just got back from a fantastic weekend with Matt on the Welsh 3k and couldn't have asked for a better time. We had blue skies and cool air so it wasn't too hot and the views were simply incredible.
