Bristly Ridge is one of the finest scrambles in Ogwen Valley with exposed ridgelines and steep gullies making for an excellent scramble onto the Glyderau. Perfect for those with plenty of grade 1 experience looking for something more challenging.

Bristly Ridge, on the southern side of Tryfan, is one of the most iconic scrambling routes in Snowdonia (Eryri). This exciting Grade 1 scramble leads you up onto the Glyderau range, taking in the spectacular summits of Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr. Known for its steep rocky sections and challenging route-finding, Bristly Ridge offers the perfect adventure for those looking to experience the very best of scrambling in North Wales with the safety of a professional guide.

Our guided Bristly Ridge scramble is led by fully qualified mountain professionals with extensive experience guiding in Eryri / Snowdonia. With in-depth knowledge of Bristly Ridge and other classic scrambles across the national park, they will ensure a safe, enjoyable, and unforgettable mountain adventure.

The Route

Your day begins at Ogwen Cottage, heading up to the start of Bristly Ridge before scrambling to the top and continuing over Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr. From there, we descend via well-trodden paths back towards Llyn Idwal and the car park. If the weather or conditions make Bristly Ridge unsafe, a suitable alternative scramble or guided mountain route in Snowdonia will be chosen to ensure a rewarding experience.

In the event of high winds and/or rain, a suitable alternative will be offered.

Who Is This For

This course is designed for scramblers who already have experience on Grade 1 scrambles and are ready to tackle more challenging mountain routes. Participants should have a good level of fitness and be comfortable moving on exposed, rocky terrain. Ideally you will have already scrambled routes like Tryfan North Ridge, Crib Goch or Striding Edge.

Just got back from a fantastic weekend with Matt on the Welsh 3k and couldn't have asked for a better time. We had blue skies and cool air so it wasn't too hot and the views were simply incredible.
