Course Info
With only a single day of Mountain Leader Training to look at rope work, it's often an area in which trainees need more input and direction. Our Rope Work for Mountain Leaders Day is an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of using the rope as a Mountain Leader and gain a better understanding of the best practices and techniques.
For many Mountain Leader trainees, ropework can often feel unfamiliar and the techniques and context are quite different to rock climbing or mountaineering. Our one-day Rope Skills Workshop will show you several methods for using the rope in ascent and descent to protect short rock steps. We will also show you methods for abseiling so you become proficient at managing yourself on steep ground with clients.
Course content
- Responsibilities of the Mountain Leader when using a rope.
- Rope types and selecting the right one for ML work
- How to care for your rope and how to pack it in your pack
- Selecting anchors
- Indirect vs Direct systems
- Abseiling (Classic vs South African Method)
We always end the session with some realistic scenarios so you can explore the context and various methods to use.
