course info
The ultimate testing ground for the hillwalker is to be able to navigate in bad weather or when darkness falls on the mountains. The only way to prepare for this type of eventuality is to actually get outside and do it in a safe and controlled session. Our instructors will give you step by step guidance on how to navigate at night so that you can develop the strategies and skills you need to do this for real.
How experienced do I need to be?
Ideally you will need to know the basics of navigation and how to use the map and compass in the daytime. If you’re looking for a course to teach you the basics why not check out our Back to Basics Course that we run in the Peak District, Staffordshire and North Wales.
How fit do I need to be?
This course is aimed at all hillwalkers and mountain walkers who have a moderate level of fitness. During the session we will focus more on core skills and micro navigation rather than large distances and you can expect to walk between 4-8km throughout the evening dependant on the group
