This two day Learn To Lead course is ideal for climbers who already have some experience of climbing and want to take it onto the next level. Ideally you will already have some experience of climbing and will understand the fundamentals like belaying and tying onto the rope. Your qualified mountaineering instructor will introduce you to all the skills in a safe and progressive environment ensuring you only get onto the sharp end when you’re ready.
Over the two days you will cover.
- Climbing grade system and how it works
- Climbing guides and how to select appropriate routes
- Lead belaying
- Climbing protection and how to use it safely and effectively
- Placing climbing protection when leading
- Building belays stances at the top of a single pitch crag.
- Phycological preparation for leading climbs.
- Environmental and accessibility considerations
- Crag etiquette and best practice when climbing at popular venues
Our instructors are the main reason why people keep coming back. All of our staff are highly experienced and super enthusiastic climbers who spend most of their time outdoors. Learn To Lead Courses are run by our Mountaineering Instructors (MIA) who are highly qualified and working at the top of their game. All our instructors are also members of the Association Of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI) which ensures they undertake continual professional development and are working to current standards.
Dates and how to book
This course requires a minimum of two people for the course to run. We deliver courses in a number of venues around the Peak District and an appropriate venue will be suggested dependant on your travel arrangements and other considerations.
