Navigating is often perceived as a dark art of witchcraft that requires in-depth knowledge and high skills for it to be effective. Thankfully this is not true and learning how to navigate can be a straightforward and fun exercise that will give you the confidence to venture further into the outdoors.
Who is this course aimed at!
This one-day course is ideal for people with little or no previous experience of using the map and compass or those looking for a refresher after some time away. This course is also ideal if you’re looking to take on an orienteering race, trail race or any competitive event where some navigation is required.
What will we look at on the day
- Map fundamentals (Map types, features and icons)
- Navigation fundamentals (How to use the map and compass)
- How to navigate efficiently when running
- Re-location and finding where you are.
- Strategies for navigating on the move.
- Fun orienteering game (Find the flags) at the end of the session to put it all into practice.
How fit do you need to be!
You don’t need to be an athlete to attend this course, just some previous trail running experience and the ability to run around 10km on trails. We have plenty of stops throughout the day, walk the big uphill’s and guarantee that you will have an awesome day running in the outdoors.

All of our courses follow Welsh government guidance and will ensure we can maintain 2m social distancing throughout the course. We have also decided to reduce the instructor ratio to 1:4 to ensure our clients feel safer in smaller groups.
