Our Winter Skills Development course encompasses a comprehensive blend of technical mountain walking proficiency, navigation in challenging snow-covered terrain, avalanche awareness and axe and crampon technique. We also cover decision-making in adverse weather conditions allowing you to progress your skills to a higher level.
For many, mastering the basics of winter walking is only the beginning and the opportunity to develop winter skills and become more competent is the logical next step. That's where our Winter Skills Development course comes in. Two days with an experienced mountain professional learning and developing your winter walking skills so you can take it to a more advanced level and become more confident going it alone.
Pro Planning - Weather forecasting, guidebooks and planning
Intermediate navigation - Learn to navigate in a whiteout and poor weather.
Advanced technical skills - Develop your crampon and axe techniques to become more confident on steeper ground.
Avalanche Masterclass - Build on your avalanche understanding so you can plan safer walks.
Emergency Skills - Learn about looking after a casualty in the mountains and how to call for help.
This course is delivered in the Cairngorm National Park and Nevis Range (Fort William). We meet in a local cafe on the morning of the first day then you will be outdoor learning and developing your skills.
We take great pride in delivering fun, engaging and inclusive courses and are passionate about helping people become more independent in the mountains. All of our instructors are fully qualified Winter Mountain Leaders or Winter Mountaineering Instructors but more importantly, are highly experienced working in the winter mountains.
